Carlos Sainz Junior predicts that the criticism his former teammate
Max Verstappen is under will stop as soon as he has a good race.
The Spaniard thinks that people will stop complaining about Verstappen's aggressive way of driving as soon as things will go his way during a race, something that hasn't happened so far this season.
"It's the same old song," Sainz told Motorsport.com.
"It might have been tough for him the first three races, but if he suddenly wins this weekend in Baku, everyone will have forgotten about it.
"That's the way it goes."
Verstappen has been at the centre of many incidents this year, including the clash he had with Sebastian Vettel last race in Shanghai when the Dutchman just ran into Vettel at a hairpin. Verstappen could've won that race if he would've kept his composure, given that his Red Bull was on way fresher tyres than everyone in front of him. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo eventually took home the win.
"In the F1, óne good race can completely stop everyone talking about you negatively," Sainz continues.
"That goes for every driver on the grid.
"Every driver that has had a rough start to the season can still turn it around."
Sainz admires his former Toro Rosso teammate, even though things got a bit heated between them at the time as they were competing for the same spots on the grid.
"I have a lot of respect for Max, I think he's an amazing driver.
"It happens to everyone that a few races don't go your way."
