The
Ferrari team had another difficult race.
Charles Leclerc crashed out with floor damage, and
Carlos Sainz finished fifth. Sainz is realistic about his result and thinks that fifth place was the maximum that the Pancing Horse could achieve today. In a press event including
GPblog, the Spaniard looks back on his race.
P5 for Sainz was the maximum possible
Sainz managed to drive to the sixth fastest time in qualifying and finished fifth in the race. Asked if there might have been more in it at
Zandvoort, Sainz is adamant:
"No, for sure not. I know at some point it looked like we could even fight for a podium, but the reality is that when the race was settled when you look at our pace, we were just nowhere in terms of pace." The
Ferrari driver is, however, happy with the race he did. He is proud of the battles he fought with cars that were faster and is happy with the maximum possible result.
Furthermore, Sainz thinks the
Ferrari had the sixth fastest car on the grid during the weekend at
Zandvoort. He saw the Alpine team have a lot of speed, resulting in a podium finish for
Pierre Gasly but acknowledges he knew before the race that it would be a challenge. "
We knew going into a race and going into yesterday's quali that we were just lacking this weekend, and we had to focus on maximising a good result, or a decent result. We did that today," Sainz said.
