Carlos Sainz Junior thinks he still needs time to learn at Renault, as he doesn't yet know the
"little tricks" like his teammate
Nico Hulkenberg does.
The Spaniard hasn't realized the full potential of his Renault yet as he's finished tenth, eleventh and ninth, but he has shown flashes last weekend that he's definitely capable of doing well in the RS14. He's still behind Hulkenberg, who's out-qualified Sainz in all three GP's and has finished above him on all occasions too, but that's because Sainz lacks the experience at the team.
"Nico's always been strong with qualifying, especially with this car - he understands it very well," Sainz said.
"You could already see it when I arrived in the team last year, he has these little tricks, little things that make him go very, very fast in qualifying, which I'm still discovering and adapting to.
The Spaniard isn't surprised that his German teammate is so fast with their car, as he's had more time with the team.
"He has over a year of experience with the car.
"He is a bloody fast guy, and on top of that, he is very experienced.
"It's a 21-race year, and we've done three.
"In one of them, I have been the faster car, so I'm not worried at all."
The Spaniard is clearly very talented and says he's just getting to know the car. Will he be outperforming Hulkenberg later this season? Or is the German simply a better driver than Sainz?
