Every year, all Formula 1 drivers get to vote for who they think is the best driver of the season. Max Verstappen was voted Driver of the Year by his peers, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. In tenth place was Mick Schumacher, who was only too happy about that.
Although Schumacher drove at the back practically all season, with a twelfth place in Hungary as his best result, the young German still managed to impress his fellow F1 drivers. The Haas was by far the worst car last season, leaving Schumacher to deal mainly with teammate Nikita Mazepin. However, the son of Michael Schumacher managed to beat him by a wide margin.
In conversation with Sky Germany the 22-year-old driver said that he was very happy with his place in the top ten of best drivers of the season. He did not expect to be in the top ten, but he likes it. "It also gives me a boost for this year, to hopefully show it with a faster car", he looks ahead to the coming season.
Haas had a difficult season, with all its sights set on 2022. With the new regulations, Haas hopes to take a big step forward. Schumacher also hopes to be further up front with Haas next season. He is not yet concerned with his further future. "Of course that also depends on what happens with Haas this year. If I do well, hopefully next year will go in the right direction."
