Mick Schumacher believes people judge Formula 1 drivers too harshly. The Haas driver was criticised after a shaky start to his season, which saw him crash several times. Since then he seems to have found his feet, but the rumour mill around his future in F1 continues to spin.
After his lacklustre start to the season, Schumacher posted his best qualifying result to date in Canada with a sixth place on the grid, before picking up points at both Silverstone and Spielberg. However, the improvement in his results did not put an end to the rumours surrounding his contract with Haas.
Schumacher believes that people are too focused on making headlines, he said in conversation with Autosport.com. He understands that the media need to make money, but would appreciate it if people would take a little more time to build a factual story. However, the German also realised that he had to do something to improve his performance, and he says he has done so.
His crash in Monaco triggered a kind of mental reset in Schumacher. He started thinking about what had happened, but also why he has a place in the premier class of motorsport. "In each championship that I've competed in in junior categories, I was able to be the second or first. So I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to do that in Formula 1," Schumacher said.
