Ferrari star Sebastian Vettel has admitted that the Italian team simply weren't good enough today during the Australian Grand Prix, as the German said the car was too slow to compete.
Coming out of pre-season testing in Barcelona, Ferrari were hailed as the favourites by many as it looked like they had compiled the quickest package. When push came to shove, however, it was their rivals Mercedes who ran away with it, both in qualifying and in the race.
The Silver Arrows started and finished the race in the first two places, with Ferrari ending fourth and fifth behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
"I guess we were just slow," Vettel told Sky Sports F1 after finishing fourth, outside of the podium places.
The four-time champion slowed down significantly after his pit stop, with his teammate Charles Leclerc catching up to him with relative ease, although the Monegasque didn't overtake.
"I was struggling with the tyres, but even ignoring the lap l pitted, it looks like everyone else was having way less problems than l was."
