Lance Stroll’s testing time at Williams this season got a little bit tougher yesterday when he crashed out of his home Canadian Grand Prix. He wasn’t fully at fault for the huge crash after Hartley hit the barrier and ran back across the track to hit Stroll who had collided with a barrier in the same corner.
Lance started the race from 16th, but by the time of the crash on lap 1, he was running in 12th. The crash retired both cars but it was Stroll who felt most of the disappointment.
“First of all, I am really disappointed for the fans. I have had a great welcome here for my home race and I wanted to put on a good show for them,” said Stroll.
“I had a good start, gained a few positions and got both McLaren’s, but I had some contact when I overtook them. Then I was side by side with Brendon going into turn five.
“The car got loose on me, I corrected it but there was not much room for both of us and by the time I had corrected it, we had touched.”
The day didn’t get any better for Williams as Sergey Sirotkin remained pointless in the drivers' standings. He came in last of all finishers.
Going into the busiest stint of the season, it doesn’t look as if Williams’ woes will end any time soon.
