With the dominant victory of Lewis Hamilton, little has changed at the top of the driver classification in the championship. The Brit has increased his lead over Max Verstappen by 7 points.
Despite appearing to be on the right track at the start of the race, the Dutchman was unable to get past the two Mercedes cars. After the restart he was too fast for Hamilton, but the Brit corrected quickly and took his place back. Bottas was forced to give up later in the race and is forced to settle with third.
With a P2 finish the damage to Verstappen is minimal. Although the Dutchman initially managed to minimise the gap to Hamilton to 6 points, his fastest lap was taken away by the FIA after the race. This was due to exceeding track limits at turn 14.
Despite finishing third, Valtteri Bottas remains in fourth place in the world championship. Lando Norris, who also finished well within the top ten today, still maintains his third place. After the Portuguese Grand Prix twelve drivers have now scored points.
