Red Bull Racing, Mercedes and Ferrari are jointly fighting behind the scenes for a one-time increase in the budget ceiling. The top teams believe it is impossible to meet the demands in the current situation. Jim Wright lashes out at The Race hard at the direction of the racing teams.

According to team bosses Christian Horner, Mattia Binotto and Toto Wolff, the costs within Formula 1 are currently too high. This is partly due to inflation and increased energy costs. It would therefore be unrealistic to stick to the established rules.

Wright, however, has a different opinion. "To hear comments from team principals threatening no shows from at least seven teams at the last four races because the cost cap is too low is disingenuous media lobbying and in my opinion, is thoroughly unprofessional," he judges.

Criticism from different sides on top teams

The current commercial director at Andretti Autosport is certainly not the only one critical of the words of Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. Indeed, Alpine and Alfa Romeo are reportedly unwilling to go along with the arguments and argue that the top teams simply need to cut costs. For now, therefore, it remains to be seen what the FIA's position is on the issue.
