Stoffel Vandoorne says his McLaren was "undriveable" following his poor qualifying performance today. He failed to beat his team-mate, Fernando Alonso, for the 10th time this afternoon.
The gap between the two papaya orange cars was nine-tenths as Vandoorne failed to make it out of Q1. Meanwhile, his Spanish team-mate named the session as his best of the season.
Speaking after the session to Autosport, Vandoorne seemed confused as to why the car wasn't giving him the performance he was after.
"Today was really difficult. The car was undriveable today, and we don't really understand why at the moment," Vandoorne said.
"I think we were actually in much better shape than we looked, [on Friday] but since this morning something has been feeling fundamentally wrong with the car, and we've not been able to really find what the problem was before qualifying."
The 26-year-old Belgian had no positive thoughts about the session when talking to the media. He's scored just eight championship points this season, and from what he describes, it sounds like his next points are far away.
"I felt very uncomfortable, no pace at all. [It was] impossible to really drive, and to do anything," he added.
