Max Verstappen speaks up for Charles Leclerc in the press conference after the Grand Prix in Imola. According to the Dutchman, the mistake from the Monegasque was not as big a blunder as people now pretend.
For Leclerc, the Grand Prix weekend ended in a major way. In the hunt for Sergio Perez's second spot, the Ferrari driver was just a little too eager on his new soft tyres. He hit the kerb the hard and ended up in the wall. He was able to continue his way, but lost a lot of ground and didn't move beyond sixth place, much to the disappointment of the Tifosi.

Leclerc gets support

An expensive mistake by Leclerc led to his rival Verstappen taking advantage of it. The Dutchman was not laughing at the mistake, however, but did feel sorry for Charles. ''That mistake was made easily. Of course he was pushing to fight with Checo. It's painful, but he knows that himself. He doesn't need to hear that from anyone else at all,'' Verstappen said.
According to the Dutchman, his rival therefore has nothing to worry about. ''It's still a long championship. You can still win a lot of points. Of course it's not great, but you can't change it anymore. He didn't do it on purpose," Max concludes in defence of Charles.

This is such nonsense. Max was very aggressive last season, he admitted it himself because it was his maiden WDC so he had to win at all cost. Aggressive behavior will warrant aggressive response. How many times did Max disrespect LH, calling him stupid idiot and stuff only for Lewis to respond in a sportsmanship way everytime. Max is calm this year hence this gentlemen atmosphere, otherwise we'll see how that plays out through out the year.

If nothing I am glad that we can all see who brought toxic environment into F1 last season.

It's also how LeClerc handled the situation afterwards. He just plainly admitted that he got "too greedy" and made a mistake. Didn't blame the team, or make any excuses. The man is just pure class.

Max is a true champ.

Anyone still wonders who else than Lewis and Toto brought the toxicity in the championship battle last year?

Max knows what he's talking about. He surely remembers very similar comments made about him in Jeddah last year. All the talking he cracked under pressure etc. He didn't. He knew he had an inferior car and tried to make up for it by taking more risk. Charles did the same thing yesterday. These to have a very similar mentality.
Anyway, great sportsmanship from Max.
