Max Verstappen will have to start from second place in the French Grand Prix in an attempt to secure victory. Although Charles Leclerc has made an excellent impression this weekend, the Dutchman thinks he has a good chance of the top spot on the podium.

The reigning world champion worked hard in qualifying to get to the front of the grid, but failed to do so. Ferrari used Carlos Sainz, who was given a grid penalty for replacing engine parts, to help Leclerc. It allowed the Monegasque to set the fastest time.

For Verstappen, however, his second place is not a problem. With Sergio Perez behind him, he expects to have a good race. "So far I think the weekend was not bad. Of course you always hope for more, but in the race hopefully we can attack," he told Formula1.com.

Verstappen said in the same interview that he expects tyre wear to play an important role in the outcome of the race, partly due to the heat that is currently present in France. He is therefore keen to make good use of his tyres.
