The Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Street Circuit will start with Max Verstappen in pole position at the race in Melbourne. The reigning world champion managed to significantly improve his time from Q2, with which he went through third, in the latter part of qualifying. Verstappen tells how.

In Q2, Verstappen continued with a time of 1:16.387. The man who has already managed to win two Grands Prix this season improved his time significantly in Q3. The time with which Verstappen managed to secure pole position was 1:15.915. That is a difference of more than four tenths. The Dutchman explains why this difference was so big.

"I also have to say that those two laps in Q3, which I drove, also felt really good. Therewasn't really a mistake there," Verstappen said after qualifying. "You talk to the team about making certain decisions about what you want to do with the car, and with the tyres. You are then constantly fine-tuning."

Behind Verstappen, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will start in his SF-24. Sergio Perez set the third fastest time in Q3, but Verstappen's teammate has been dropped back after impeding Nico Hulkenberg in qualifying. So he will now start from sixth place, allowing Lando Norris to start third.
