Max Verstappen showed during the opening weekend in Bahrain that
Red Bull Racing can compete with Mercedes this season. Although the latter team crossed the finish line first two weeks ago, Verstappen was close to victory.
Despite Verstappen's second place, the battle is far from over, as Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has revealed on several occasions in recent days. The current car of Verstappen is expected to give Mercedes a hard time again in
Imola. The Dutch driver is personally very confident about the races to come.
Thus Verstappen tells opposite
f1i.com:
"We started the season positively, so hopefully we can keep that up. It won't be easy and everything has to work perfectly to beat our main competitors." Verstappen is happy with how his car is handling this season compared to 2020.
"I don't think you can compare both cars because there are many different factors, like the tyres and the changes to the aerodynamics. But the RB16B is definitely handling well so far."Areas of improvement at Red Bull
Where Red Bull left an excellent impression two weeks ago, Verstappen is far from satisfied with his performance. "Even if we had won the race in Bahrain, there are always areas for improvement. Especially when you are up against a team that has been world champion seven times, so that is what we will continue to do in Imola. I'm ready for battle and it's still a very long season."
