It’s fair to say that
Max Verstappen is living the dream for most 20-year olds. A four time Grand Prix winner with Red Bull and one of the biggest names in motorsport, but the Dutchman isn’t satisfied yet.
He began his career in 2015, signing his first F1 contract with Toro Rosso at the age of 16, making his debut at 17. In 2016 he was switched with Daniil Kvyat to take the seat at Red Bull alongside Daniel Ricciardo, who has now announced he is leaving the team.
Verstappen made an immediate impact, winning his first race with the Austrian team, the Spanish Grand Prix. As you may expect, he is the youngest driver to ever win a Grand Prix.
Since that debut, he has shown his talent on plenty of occasions, but also his relative inexperience compared with those drivers around him.
He was criticised from all angles for a string of incidents earlier in the season, but seems to be over that spell now.
“At 20 years of age I can’t complain,” he said in a Sky Sports interview.
“I love what I do, my hobby became my profession which is really nice.
“There is a lot more to win, especially in Formula 1. It’s a good start of my career, especially being 20 years old, I’m not done yet.
“I love driving a racecar and I love driving it to the limit. When you’re doing well, that’s your motivation to keep doing well. That’s what I enjoy, to live in that moment to feel like that, every single weekend.”
