It has been a tough start to the 2019 season for Sebastian Vettel and he’s admitted he’s low on confidence in his new car but insists it is not an uncommon feeling for drivers.
Vettel has finished third in the last two races, in China and Azerbaijan stabilising a bad start which saw him finish P4 and P5 at the opening two races respectively. He’s benefitted this season from team orders which have seen him stay ahead of Charles Leclerc.
Despite the slight upturn in results, the German admitted he’s not entirely comfortable in the new Ferrari.
"You need confidence in the car and I'm not yet there," Vettel said.
“I can feel that I'm not driving at my best simply because the car does not respond in the way that I like, then it's unnatural.
"I think everybody's been there.
"I think all the drivers know that sort of feeling, I seem to be more sensitive at the first races than at the test.
Ferrari dominated the pre-season tests in Barcelona but Vettel insisted that’s in the past.
"The test was really good but that's a long time ago now.
“We need to look forward and improve the way we handle things, the way we work to get faster."
