It is fair to say it hasn't been
Sebastian Vettel's finest half of
Formula 1 racing and the German has been reflecting on the opening half of his season and admits there's still a gap to the leaders.
The German is fourth in the Drivers' Championship but his season has been plagued by controversy with the stewards, with his own team and his own mistakes. At the start of the season
Ferrari chose to favour the German over new teammate
Charles Leclerc, but as the Scuderia chase their first win that is now not the case.
Vettel admitted that the team have had their chances but for whatever reason, they've not been able to take them.
"In Australia, we were a long way behind [Mercedes] and unfortunately we still have a gap," Vettel said as quoted by
Motorsport-Total.com.
"We had our chances, but for some reason we did not win a race."
Having had a good shot at victory in Canada, before he was denied by the stewards Vettel insisted that is not important and
Ferrari just haven't been good enough.
"But that's not important, after all, we are not competitive enough and could never really control the races, we know we're behind," Vettel added.
