Vettel "surprised" by Bottas crash

Sebastian Vettel has seemed to place the blame for his 64th lap crash with Valtteri Bottas on the Finn.

Vettel got a good run into turn three and attempted a move around the outside, only to be hit by Bottas on the apex. There are plenty of opinions flying around over who is at fault for the crash, but Vettel believes it was his corner.

The German told Sky Sports after the race: “I was surprised because I was already ahead.”

Vettel led for a lot of the race as he ran for much longer on his first shift than his Mercedes rivals of Bottas and Lewis Hamilton, who won the race and extended his lead in the championship.

“It was a tough race,” Vettel added. "We were out of position. I think we could have gone with Lewis today with the race pace.

"P2 is not really what we wanted this weekend but I think it was the maximum today."
