After a scorching hot Friday and Saturday at Le Castellet in the south of France, what will the weather be like for Sunday, the day of the
French Grand Prix at the Circuit Paul Ricard?
Track temperatures were well in the 50's in terms of degrees Celsius on both Friday and Saturday. Combined with the wind at certain corners of the circuit, this made for very tricky conditions, with tyre life being very hard to preserve and grip being hard to come by.
Lewis Hamilton, who had the previous track record at Paul Ricard as well, made the most of the conditions, though, putting his
Mercedes on pole position for the 60th time since he joined the German side.
Valtteri Bottas completed the one-two, which was the 63rd in Mercedes' history, followed by
Charles Leclerc's
Ferrari on P3.
Red Bull Racing star
Max Verstappen was over a second off the pace in P4, closely followed by the incredibly impressive
McLarens of
Lando Norris and
Carlos Sainz in P5 and P6 respectively.
So, when the drivers pull up tomorrow's weather forecasts on their phones tonight before they go to sleep, they'll see it will be even hotter tomorrow when the Grand Prix starts.
Air temperature is expected to be at 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit), with 0% chance of rain in the Southern French summer. Some clouds will appear, but drivers should be gearing up for another scorching hot day in the cockpit of their monocoques!
