Prior to the
Spanish Grand Prix the main topic of discussion is the fight between
Mercedes and
Max Verstappen. However, there is a chance that Verstappen will not be able to get close to the
Mercedes at all. Peter Windsor explains why on his Youtube channel.
The journalist looked at the speed measurements at the end of the straight. The RB16 from Verstappen reaches a similar speed as Mercedes, about 308 km/h.
Racing Point however achieves a top speed of over 320 km/h and could ruin the Dutchman's race.
Verstappen can't do much about it
"From Max's point of view, these speed trap results are quite encouraging. If he gets into a DRS situation [behind a Mercedes] it won't be bad for him. But the problem is going to be the two Racing Points, because they are much faster on the straight. If he can't stay in front of them, especially in the first few laps, it could be a very bad day for Verstappen".
According to Windsor himself, Verstappen can do little about this. He says the Dutchman had another perfect day and didn't make a single mistake. He compares his ride with
Lewis Hamilton's, while
Valtteri Bottas seems to have a little more trouble squeezing out a fast lap.
