Mercedes team boss
Toto Wolff has backed Ferrari young driver
Charles Leclerc to be a champion of the future after his impressive performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Leclerc took pole position and despite falling down the order on the first lap, the young Monegasque fought his way back up to first place before engine problems forced him back down to third, to claim his first F1 podium finish.
“In Leclerc, I think we’re seeing a young champion in the making who was the emotional winner [in Bahrain],” said Wolff.
“Fastest man and fastest machine. He has gotten all the cruel side of motor-racing and it was our fortune.
“Very, very impressive. He has a good personality. He is a humble young man and he’s very fast.”
