Mercedes were the big winners on the first day of the Brazilian Grand Prix. While Lewis Hamilton took first place, Valtteri Bottas did well to finish third. Toto Wolff was satisfied with the result, although he remains focused.

The British driver had his combustion engine replaced this weekend, so Hamilton seems to be benefiting from the new version. However, the Mercedes team boss reveals that it was mainly down to Hamilton's performance. "No, it wasn't just the engine. I think we were faster today in all respects," Wolff told Speedweek.com.

Although Wolff is confident in the team, he expects Mercedes to have a hard time beating Red Bull in the rest of the weekend. "Our top speed is good. But whether it will be good enough to pass the other cars remains to be seen. From today's point of view I would say we have a good starting position for the sprint race, but the Grand Prix will probably be difficult to win."

Grid penalty for Hamilton in Brazil

Hamilton faces a challenge during Sunday's race. Due to the replacement of the combustion engine, he will receive a penalty of five grid places.
