George Russell managed to take his first victory in Formula 1 at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Having already won the sprint race on Saturday, he also managed to take the main race a day later. Toto Wolff is proud of the driver, he told Motorsport.com.
Russell is only in his first season in the motorsport class, but is already making a big impression. The driver stood on the podium eight times in 2022, taking his first win in Brazil. It tastes like more for Mercedes, which hopes to compete for the world title with him in the coming years.
Wolff has now witnessed Russell at close quarters for a season and, speaking to the Medium, has many compliments to spare for the talent. The Austrian even believes that Mercedes and the Briton may have waited a year too long to make the switch to the German racing team.
At the same time, the team boss thinks his time at Williams may also have done him good. According to Wolff, Russell was free to develop himself further at that team. "It was the best training he could get," Wolff said.
