Nyck de Vries proved this season in
Formula E what qualities he has in him. The driver won the championship and told the media that he wanted to make the step to
Formula 1.
It immediately put the spotlight on Toto Wolff. The Mercedes team boss sees a lot of potential in De Vries, but also has to make choices. In conversation with
Motorsportweek.com Wolff says he would rather not lose the Dutchman in Formula E, but that he would like to talk to him.
"And now the time has come for people to recognise his talent and his ability and therefore talks are taking place, but for us the most important thing is that he stays within the family. I don't really want to lose him at that stage for another Formula E championship, but I wouldn't block him from Formula 1 either." De Vries assures of Formula E
Wolff has a lot of confidence in him for now. "Nyck has a guaranteed seat with us in Formula E and I'm in two minds as I said before - I wish he was in Formula 1, but I don't want to lose him for our Formula E campaign."
