The crash of the year in 2022 came in the name of Guanyu Zhou. At Silverstone, the Chinese flew over after a collision with George Russell just after the start of the British Grand Prix and into the fences behind the tyre piles. The halo probably saved his life. Next weekend, Zhou returns to the place where he had that violent accident.
"Of course, I remember the crash I was involved in last year," Zhou says. "That, however, is a closed chapter and has been ever since I returned home on that
same day. This race is important to me, as I have spent so much time in the UK: all my motivation this weekend will go into doing well in a place I know very well."
The Alfa Romeo the Chinese driver is behind the wheel of has proved anything but speed. In Austria last weekend, the team was unable to make a breakthrough. "We are motivated to put the tough weekend in Spielberg behind us. We will have some new parts on the car for this race, which should allow us to make a further step forward. I am keen to get back on track and extract their full potential. Hopefully, we’ll be able to find more pace, which we lacked in Austria. Difficult races can happen; what is important now is that we maintain our focus and keep working towards getting back into the top ten right away."
