Exactly. Andretti just announced their new facility that's going to cost the same 200 million dollars that they won't have to pay if they buy an existing team. AT takes Herta to get him some experience so he can be Andretti's #1 by the time the transfer is official.04-09-2022 22:22

That's only if the revenue total remains static. Andretti's argument is that they will bring enough additional revenues that everyone's final share will be greater, regardless of the extra headcount in the split. I'm inclined to agree.14-05-2022 02:17

It's not even about how many road traaks indy runs. They run extreme e, formula e v8 supercars, etc. This is a legitimate racing organization who deserves a shot if they're able and willing to foot the bill.09-04-2022 04:56

My guess would be be in consideration of the budget cap, first build the the design with the less expensive but heavier materials. As designs become proven, build the final iterations out of the lighter expensive stuff. You can wind tunnel all you like, but it's not the same as race conditions and everything is brand new. Seems like a fairly intelligent approach.06-04-2022 05:07

Two things that I think are really important about this seem to have largely gone unmentioned. He pipped Leclerc at top form in cars that have been demonstrably neck and neck. That doesn't make him automatically better than Leclerc but does refute some of the criticisms he's faced about his ability. Second, this track is probably the highest on the risk reward scale, and to me, puts a little extra shine on getting pole there.27-03-2022 15:02

I think we might be accidentally talking past each other a little. I just meant with the tire change it seemed to me it was going to put more pressure on the suspension engineers to compensate for something they were getting for free previously, placing extra emphasis on that part of the car design.24-02-2022 11:17

I've kind of thought the opposite since the he new tires were announced. I might be way off base, but the thicker side walls on the previous tires were effectively half of their suspension because of the give. With the thinner sidewalls they have to more effort into the suspension design to compensate. Especially since the ground effect is more finicky about ride height changes. I think Norris pulled a faster time today because he ran the softer tires than everyone else.24-02-2022 04:50

It's really hard to tell, but, are they running a pull rod set up in the front?20-02-2022 02:53
