SlowRacer 07 April 2025 at 13:01 + 10 @Wade,I’d push back on that quite a bit. The situation between this year and last isn’t as parallel as you're making it out to be. First, let’s not pretend the Red Bull advantage at the start of 2024 was wiped out entirely it’s still a quick and efficient car, especially over a race distance. What we’re seeing now is that McLaren has caught up in qualifying and certain circuits, but that doesn't mean they’re dominating in the same way Red Bull did in early 2023. Verstappen had a multi-race cushion before other teams even found their footing. That changes how you approach races entirely. Second, mistakes happen under pressure, yes but it’s a different kind of pressure when you’re chasing a dominant leader versus trying to convert raw pace into consistent results for the first time. Red Bull in 2023 had years of experience winning. McLaren is still re-learning what it means to be a front-runner. Growing pains are part of that. Also, let’s not rewrite history. Verstappen didn’t just build a lead because of the car. He maximized every opportunity while rivals faltered exactly what McLaren isn’t doing now. So no, it’s not the same pattern. If anything, it’s showing that dominance isn’t just about machinery it’s about mindset, execution, and experience. McLaren's still catching up in those departments.
