It's quite simple. If other teams break the cap this year and can prove it was due to budgeting throughout the year, they should receive a similar penalty as RBR gets now. That is, if the sum of the breach is similar too. The exception here would be for Mercedes, since Toto went out public about going to breach the cap, if he does not like the punishment, purposely. That should get a whole different punishment, due to the nature of the breach.23-10-2022 16:02

Technically, FIA saying 'go ahead and make it', is not the same as saying it is legal. For all FIA cares, Mercedes could want to make one wing like this to throw the competition off guard and not actually use it. Anyways, Mercedes knows the rules and should have figured it's a no go.22-10-2022 14:09

It's all fine. That one million pound was added up to the Mercedes bill due to the 51G crash caused by their driver. It consists of repairs required to the car and the medical bill for Verstappen. As a result, Mercedes now went over budget by 1 Pound, due to this unforseen expense.06-10-2022 20:05

Indeed, it was a truly classic blow out of the long past V10/V12 era, when they had a new engine for every session.13-07-2022 22:11

Changes that will only get approved when they do not give any extra performance. So trying to sneak in more power will only lead to having to use unreliable engines longer.15-07-2022 17:40

They can only upgrade the hybrid part of the engine until somewhere september. The ICE already is locked in, no changes allowed bar reliability related ones.14-07-2022 17:12

It seems the part that fails already is locked in. That does not mean they can not solve it, but it becomes significantly more complicated. That is because any update to make the engine more reliable, can not add any kind of extra performance, at all. If it adds even half a bhp, the update will be deemed illegal and they can start from scratch.13-07-2022 22:15

The sarcasm went straight past you I see. 2014 as well was a massive regulation change and I have seen plenty of claims that Hamiltons brilliance was part of why that car was so great. He himself helped develop it to that level. If what all those fans claim is soo true, then why does/did he not do it again this time? Maybe because he wasn't all that big a part in the car development to begin with, budget cap or not.18-06-2022 19:55

What I don't get, is why Mercedes does not solve their problems. I mean, for years I have heard fans claim the Hybrid era Mercedes was so great, due to all the input of Hamilton, who was a massive part of it's brilliance. So why does Hamilton take so much time to get this W13 to shapes of greatness? It has been 8.5 races meanwhile and all we hear is that everything Hamilton tries, makes it worse.18-06-2022 13:20

Saying Verstappen had it way more easy than Hamilton is ridiculous. You'll have to go from all the stories we know, as you have not been part of either their youth. What we do know is that Hamiltons father did everything for Hamiltons racing career. We also know that Verstappen first already had to convince Jos to let him race, but we also know that Max did not get anything on a silver platter. If anything, he got it from a plastic platter he had to pull from a trashcan of a gas station somewhere on the highway, where he was left behind by his father, while he still was a young kid. Generally, your assessment of the situation is based on bias, not on facts.11-05-2022 19:26
