Carlos Sainz has picked up a penalty. After
Kevin Magnussen, the Spanish driver also receives a time penalty. Sainz received this for an incident with
Oscar Piastri. The penalty causes him to lose his fourth place.
Sainz was battling with Piastri towards the end of the race. After the long straight at the end of the lap, the
Ferrari driver tried to overtake the
McLaren driver, but in doing so he hit the Australian. Piastri had to have his front wing replaced as a result. The rest of his race was spent outside the points.
Sainz penalty after Miami GP
Sainz did not have to go in because of damage. In the end, the Spaniard finished fourth in Miami. However, because of his penalty, he loses a place to
Sergio Perez. As a result, Sainz gets 12 points instead of 15.
The Ferrari driver also receives a penalty point on his licence. Unlike
Kevin Magnussen, he does not need to fear suspension for the time being. In fact, this is his first penalty point in the past 12 months. A total of 12 penalty points are needed for a suspension.
