Nyck de Vries has been chosen to replace Alexander Albon for the remainder of the race weekend in Italy. The Dutchman will make his racing debut in Formula 1.
De Vries will race for Williams in Italy as a replacement for Albon. On Friday, the Dutchman drove for Aston Martin in FP1. The British-Thai driver will not be in action for the rest of this weekend. Albon has appendicitis and will therefore no longer be able to drive at Monza.
Williams confirmed Albon was currently being treated for it in hospital. Williams reports that Albon is otherwise feeling well and wishes him a speedy recovery.
De Vries is the second driver to provide a substitute in 2022. Nico Hulkenberg replaced Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin for the first two races of the season.
That's gonna be tough FP1 in a totally different car. Now has to adapt to a Williams and barely having time to set up the car to his liking.
And add insane pressure.
All the odds are against him. I hope he gets a second shot at Singapore while driving a full race weekend.
Since an appendicitis recovery takes around 4-6 weeks.
Reading these comments it seems like you folks need to lay off the drink. Albon has taken I'll. Goodnight
Are you guys not reading the article? It says that he has appendicitis
I hope he will feel better soon. Sure the doctors will have him sorted in no time
Most of the users here seem to read only the titles of the articles. :)
Thanks, the original article only mentioned Nyck was replacing Albon without giving any reason, it was edited with the full details later.
Well, well well. Why do that to Albon if he's fit to race?
Edit : Just got the update, Hope Alex is better soon.
Mavrick 75 thats what i was thinking with it all they had to do was put him in fp1 then lafity in fp2 see what times were
From Williams tweet that is in the article:
"Williams Racing can confirm that, after feeling unwell this morning and seeking medical advice from the FIA and local hospital, Alex Albon is now undergoing treatment for appendicitis."
Didn't see that in the original article, it was edited with this later. Poor Alex, hope he's ok.
GPBlog never edits an article... like the FIA never introduces rule changes mid-season. :-)
《/sarcasm》
Logistically, you would think that they want to see how he compares to Latifi over a full race distance to properly evaluate him to take over Latifi’s seat for next season.
Actually, it’s because Albon is not feeling well.
