Newly appointed Williams team boss James Vowles is delighted with his driver Alexander Albon. The British Thai impressed at the Canadian Grand Prix, keeping the competition behind him for dozens of laps on old, hard tyres. It eventually earned him a well-deserved seventh place and the team six very much appreciated points.
In the Beyond the Grid podcast, the British team boss talks about the appreciation he feels for his driver. "He is a funny chap. There is no ego. I called him to explain to him that it was a drive of champions [in Canada]." Vowles believes he has the necessary experience to make such statements, he says:"I have worked with a good number of them and it really was," he refers to his time at Mercedes.
According to the Williams man, Albon does not get the appreciation he deserves. "I think he is very underrated and I am incredibly happy that he is here in our organisation today and here for a long time." The Brit does not even shy away from building the team around the British Thai. "Yes, I would." Vowles explained that he believes Albon possesses leadership qualities, which can help the team in its further development.
The Williams driver is currently 12th in the drivers' standings with seven points. As teammate Logan Sargeant has yet to score a point, the team is ninth in the constructors' championship with seven points.
