Fernando Alonso is back at it again. The 41-year-old Spaniard has achieved three podiums after three races in the new season, the last of which marked his 100th podium in Formula 1.

'Need to keep both feet on the ground'

Alonso returned to Formula 1 in 2021 with the Alpine team. After a two-year stint, he made the switch to Aston Martin this winter, where he currently has a multi-season contract. Now that this team is also competitive, there are many opportunities.

Still, the two-time world champion does not want to push too hard, although he still wants to go for a third world title, he says in an interview with Bang & Olufsen: "I still want to go for a third world title, but at the moment we have to keep both feet on the ground. This season the goal is just to get better, get to know the car better and start a new project from day one. Hopefully we can get more podiums and compete for wins, but I think the world title is still too far away."

Ultimately, with a possible third world title, the dreaming does not end for Alonso, although he remains realistic: “I think when you race for many years, obviously you start breaking records, but I think the only thing that matters is to win and to break the record of championships. At the moment that’s probably unreachable, because seven of Michael and seven of Hamilton are out of, you know, the possibility, but that will be the aim ultimately.”
