With Sebastian Vettel , Aston Martin attracted a four-time world champion as a signpost for the big brand, but he is not yet at his old level. Nico Hulkenberg was recruited as a reserve driver. Is he a potential replacement in the long run?
Aston Martin saw a great opportunity in 2020 when Vettel was pushed aside by Ferrari. From Racing Point the team would change to Aston Martin in 2021, and with such a unique brand comes a signboard. Vettel, as four-time world champion, is of course a great showcase, but does he still have the speed?
Where Sergio Perez, who was pushed aside for Vettel, often beat his teammate Lance Stroll by a wide margin, Stroll is now suddenly ahead of Vettel. It causes question marks among many followers. Can Vettel still reach his old level, and why has Hulkenberg been brought in as a reserve driver? The Hulk speaks openly about his ambition to return to F1. Is Aston Martin the place he wants to return to?
"I believe in him. The fact that Hulkenberg has been brought in should not be overthought. It is a normal process, but of course I am not that close to the fire," said Aston Martin boss, Tobias Moers, to Auto Zeitung.
Seb has not had the best of luck in the first three races, but he is getting used to the car and is basically around the same pace a lance, so don't write him off too quick, there is more to come, Seb is no fool he knows what he is doing, and let's not forget the car is nowhere near is good as last year and it is the car that is off the pace not Seb, and on top of some bad luck he has had some awful strategies thrust upon him, but apart from all this I think he is doing okay, one weakness is that his tyres seem to go off a bit too quick, and when that happens there is nothing any driver can do about that, you are a sitting duck to someone one fresher tyres.
Sebastian Vettel is 4 time f1 champion, he has the pace and the same speed as he had during his time with the Red-Bull and Ferrari team, the AMR21 may not have the pave this year but with aerodynamic and body design rules and regulation changes around the corner arriving in 2022 will surely help the AMR22(Aston Martin's 2022 F1 car) to shine and hopefully Vettel will bounce back and become a 9 time weltmeister.
Seb.. do not believe anything Otmar says... look what he did to Sergio... if they kept him, AM would be closer to the top.. bcoz he already understood that car... that's what they get for breaking Checo's contract... not your fault, but you're in there now!
