Nyck de Vries has driven his last Grand Prix in Formula 1 for now. He will be replaced by Red Bull reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian is hoping to secure a Red Bull seat for next season. Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle finds De Vries' dismissal sad to see.
"Quite clearly to me, desperation has crept into his driving in recent races, quite a lot of desperation. He's got into some skirmishes he shouldn't have been in, and it's just been really sad to watch because I think he's better than that," Brundle wrote in his column at Sky Sports News.
"There's a long line - Sebastien Buemi, Jean-Eric Vergne, Jaime Alguersuari, Daniil Kvyat, you can add Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon - of young drivers who just got chewed up in that system," Brundle said
The former Formula 2 champion even scored points in Formula 1 last season. De Vries drove the Williams to ninth place at Monza. After mediocre performances, De Vries was eventually sacked from AlphaTauri. Whether the Dutch motorsport driver will ever get another chance in Formula 1 remains to be seen.
