Nyck de Vries already has to start the British Grand Prix from the last row of the grid, and to make matters worse, his team was also found guilty of an unsafe release. Fortunately for De Vries, it did not land him a grid penalty, but all in all it was not a successful Saturday for the Dutchman.

De Vries P19 in Silverstone qualifying

It could be heard on board radio that De Vries was not happy with his team's action, but afterwards he says he also understands why they did not see the approaching car. "Yeah, I mean, in the team's defence these conditions are so tricky, and everyone is taking every margin," he revealed in a press interview with GPblog and others.

"I mean, nobody really knows whether it's dry or wet. Sunshine with rain, and it's constantly changing. So everyone is trying to be out on track and you take some risks and then these things happen," he added.

As for his nineteenth place, De Vries thinks there could have been more in it. "I think in these circumstances, it's not an entirely fair read and representation of the entire grid. I think throughout the session, Yuki and I were both kind of around P11, P10. And then the session turned into a one-lap shootout. And then conditions are changing, you're queuing for three minutes, you have like no temperatures at all," he continued.

"And then basically, the later you arrive at the traffic lights and the later you're on track, the better it is. And it's always a risk versus reward. And yeah, I'm just a little disappointed that it didn't quite work out for us, because I think we were a little bit more competitive than what we showed now," the AlphaTauri driver said.
