Anthony Davidson is certain that Charles Leclerc can win the world title, but there is one big problem: the reliability of F1-75. The Monegasque is likely to pay for it this season.
Leclerc is preparing for his second home race of the season. After Leclerc was again unlucky at Monaco, he will now be shouted to victory by the many French at the Paul Ricard circuit. Davidson thinks Leclerc has a good chance of winning the Grand Prix again, but has doubts about the world title.
''He's (Leclerc) driving brilliantly well, I love the way he is driving. It hasn't always gone his way this season, he has had a lot of bad luck. I feel Ferrari need to get on top of their engine. If they are to win this championship, if Charles is to win this championship, they have to sort their engine issues out. They are too unreliable,'' the former Formula One driver told Sky Sports.
According to Davidson, it is not surprising that there is so much pressure on the Italian team to perform. ''They have the car to do it, Charles has the skill to do it, Sainz won the race at Silverstone. They have the equipment but it's letting them down in terms of reliability. I just feel that it will slip away from them if they can't get ontop of it," concludes Davidson.
Ferrari have a tough task ahead of them this season as Leclerc has already received a grid penalty for a new engine and Carlos Sainz is likely to start from last in France with a new engine after his engine exploded in Austria. With plenty of races still to go, there is little chance that the Ferrari drivers will stop there.
