Mercedes driver George Russell was not happy with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc at the British Grand Prix. The Brit believed the Monegasque was too aggressive in defending. He was out of line, Russell told GPblog and others.
Russell saw his chance to pass Leclerc's Ferrari at turn 16, the last chicane before the finish line. The former Grand Prix winner wanted to outsmart his rival on the inside but saw him switch lines in the braking zone."That's clearly not allowed by the rules," stated Russell, who was unhappy with the action: "He came across pretty aggressively."
All in all, it was very frustrating for the Mercedes man, who eventually finished fifth, four spots ahead of Leclerc. "I think he got a slap on the wrist, but when you've got one overtaking opportunity and you get a warning for it, it's a bit frustrating," he said. Though the matter now seems settled for the former F2 champion. He will not bring it up at the next drivers' meeting. "I'm sure they're in it. It was very borderline. I need to look at the video again. It felt on the limit from within the car or maybe just over the limit."
