Hamilton stresses: 'No problems between me and Verstappen, I respect him'
Despite the bitter battle that took place between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in the 2021 Formula 1 season, Hamilton says there is no issue between the two rivals. Indeed, he says he can only respect the performance of the two-time world champion.
Hamilton says that he does not really speak to anyone regularly, not even his mother. He does stress, however, that there are no problems between him and Verstappen. "At least, he is a lot younger, so maybe he has a problem with me, but I am not sure about that and I actually assume not. Although I can't speak for him," the Mercedes driver thought aloud in conversation with Formula One Magazine.
The battle for the 2021 world title may have ended in a rock-hard feud between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, but Hamilton says there is no bitterness on his part towards his rival. "He did everything he had to do in 2021, so why should I have a problem with him? He performed and delivered every weekend, nobody can take that away from him," he continued.
Hamilton has no problem with Verstappen
Regardless of the car's performance, Hamilton says it is never easy to consistently perform at such a high level as Verstappen has done. He also stresses that Red Bull Racing has done an excellent job as a team and the seven-time world champion can only respect that.
"People like to talk about there being problems between Max and me," the 38-year-old Briton adds. However, he stresses again that there is no such thing as far as he is concerned and dismisses the stories as "fairytales". "I respect him," Hamilton concludes.
Even i am Hamilton's fan I don't think that I must agree with Hamilton and as long as Hamilton's haters which most of them are Verstappen's fans are insulting my favourite I will have an response for them!
A good statement from Lewis, it's also important he can show it on track with Max, Sainz, Ocon and the other young drivers or even his good old friend Alonso. If Toto can stop making comments about Horner and visa versa, the British "fans" stop booing Max at Silverstone; We "the fans" can respect all drivers and enjoy their performances every race without anomosity.
"At least, he is a lot younger, so maybe he has a problem with me" That statement is a fact that they have issues on the field. Max is a master of overtaking and Lewis is honestly struggling to come to terms with how a driver overtakes him. He hasent been used to that for a while.......On many occasions he has simply closed the door without realizing that an opponent can jump on the inside (A MAJOR WEAKNESS). It has happened with Max, Alonso and Sainz. He has to change his style, else he will keep colliding with drivers. If drivers see room on the inside, they will go for it. George does the same as well. In fact, Lewis did the same to George and he backed off in Mexico. If he keeps colliding, Lewis will then start assuming and complaining that every driver is out to get him. That is not the case. He has issues with wheel to wheel battle...............
The way I see it. It is easy in an interview to say the right things, but once Lewis puts the Helmet on and gets on the track, all the respect he has for Max disappears!!
There are a lot of people, even on here, who are really hard on Lewis. But equally he must be given praise when deserved. These are very respectful comments and I applaud him. Both Lewis and Max are amazing drivers.
You maybe ok Lewis but Max is struggling. Look at how he rammed you in Brazil 2nd corner. He can't help it when racing next to you, we know his weakness is wheel to wheel racing but next to you he just looses his scroopoles.
Lmao, mate reality is literally opposite haha. Wheel to wheel is his weakness?? Hahaha he’s literally the king of wheel to wheel action. He already has so many legendary performances and overtakes it’s hard to mention them all. For example that 2021 Mexico overtake of Bottas and Hamilton in one corner. It’s probably one of the bast 2 cars overtake ever. 99% of those overtakes are 2 cars battling each other, and then 3rd car slides beside them. Plus majority of them is faster car overtaking midfielders or backmarkers. Max’s overtake was two of the fastest, dominant car of that era and not while they were battling each other or had any problems. It was just braking at last possible moment, and unbelievable grip judgment. He literally started braking 30 meters after them, which is unbelievable in it of itself. Pure skill. But yeah your hate can’t change the reality mate

He said everything well and correctly, respect. The only objection is that he could call his mother more often.
That comment was one Lewis didn't do any favors for himself with. It requires virtually no effort at all to find 2 minutes every day to call your mum and ask how her day is. Most mothers never tire to pick up the phone and here the voice of their child.
I understand what you're saying, but I also understand those who don't do that, and I don't hold it against them. I know that they simply ignore it, even though they are worldly, that they should and would like to, but because of the pace of life and obligations, they think they don't make it. Now, when we are adults, it is nice to be able to repay our parents, even if only to invite them to hear us. We have to be careful with him, even if sometimes it is forced. It's never too late to change that.
If only Max fans and Ham fans could start respecting each other for their choices instead of trying to cause as much insult as possible....
This is not the case now. Moderators are very strict now and you cant insult others without facing a ban.
