If Verstappen doesn't win the world title, he'll have lost it himself'.

Jacques Villeneuve is sure about it. According to the former F1-driver Max Verstappen will be world champion in 2022. In his column for Formule1.nl the Canadian expresses his admiration for Verstappen and Red Bull Racing.

Dominating Verstappen

Verstappen surprised friend and foe in Belgium by winning the Belgian Grand Prix from P14 with playful ease. It took the reigning world champion less than half a race to take the lead and then put the entire field at bay. That display of power says enough about the rest of the F1 season, according to Villeneuve.

''He was so dominant, nobody could come close to him, it was impressive. Max was really in a world of his own,'' Villeneuve said of the Red Bull driver. According to the 1997 world champion, Verstappen cannot lose the title. ''I don't see how he can lose it, unless he gets extremely unlucky or starts making really stupid mistakes. And if he doesn't win the title, it will be because he lost it himself.

Newey's wonder car

Although Verstappen put in an exceptional performance in Belgium, Villeneuve also points to the RB18. Adrian Newey 's latest creation is the best on the grid at the moment and gives Max the opportunity to excel. Where other teams were either fast on the straight or in the corners, Red Bull was fast everywhere.

With this excellent form, Red Bull Racing and Verstappen head straight to Zandvoort, where the Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled to be held. With the Italian Grand Prix on the calendar immediately afterwards, there is little time for the competition to catch up. It is therefore likely that Verstappen will only run further and further away from his second world title.

Only way he could lose the title is if he had 5 straight DNFs by his mistake or car failures. But RB looks really reliable and Max didn’t make a single fatal mistake so far in the season. I just don’t see it happening now

Absolutely, without mishaps or misfortune or Murphy's law, Max will be a deserved world champion this year. Hoping it stays clean for him and there's more good racing this year.

0% chance of him making stupid mistakes, but the chances of him getting crashed into unfortunately are there.

It's good for Max that Merc aren't competitive because it's speciality of their drivers to understeer in to opponents in tight races.

Masi said he will give Max another title for being a great driver!

NonS 29 August 2022 at 18:24+ 3033

Nah, Masi is banned for artificially keeping Hamilton in the contention last year with his biased rulings. I mean, ramming into people, cutting chicanes and gaining advantage and so on. Enough was enough.

Yup. Lewis the battering ram struck again. If you can’t beat your competitors on track, send ‘em flying!! The only difference is yesterday at Spa Lewi’s trick backfired. Oops. That trick he used in Silverstone last year to crash Max out of the race worked last year (and he was penalized for it) and tried it on Alonso this past weekend and crashed himself out of the race this time. I think even Alonso may have made a comment about Lewis’s driving …. Can’t quite remember what he said

Hamilton is been using the "just following the racing line" excuse since his junior days. Always a dirty driver. If punished he'd play the race card. Unfortunately it worked too many times as marshals didn't want to deal with the abuse from the righteous mob.

I wanna bet in Hamilton's junior days you could hardly tell the difference between a hard and a soft tyre. But it is not your ignorance that is most bemusing, but the fact that you actually hold your shallow statement as fact, nogal you feel validated by those 'likes'.

Gnasher 30 August 2022 at 14:39+ 267

Oh but I bet you remember exactly what Alonso said, you just want to hear it again and again so you can gloat more. It's the kind of thing that makes you who you are.

They were biased towards Ham very true I think they wanted a final showdown tied on points that's why F1 is so popular now

Gnasher 30 August 2022 at 14:31+ 267

If popularity = Success, then based on your assessment F1 success is attributed to Ham as you call him? Just humble yourself then and thank Ham for delivering a good show and keeping you entertained.

Anything can happen. When he is announced World Champion, then he will be. Not any second sooner. To finish First, you first have to Finish.
