Mike Krack stresses that Red Bull Racing really is a size too big for Aston Martin this season. In an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport the Aston Martin team boss looks at the team's position this season and its battle with the competition.

Aston Martin can currently be satisfied with the 2023 season. After three races, Fernando Alonso has been on the podium three times, and the team is second in the championship behind Red Bull Racing. However, Krack makes it clear that beating Red Bull is definitely not something on Aston Martin's agenda.

"There is a difference between confidence and arrogance," Krack explains. "We are substantially behind them. Even if they stand still, the gap would be big to catch up in one season. Plus: They have a different infrastructure, different firepower than we do. Of course, we take the fastest car as a reference. We just don't drive ourselves crazy and constantly look at the distances to Ferrari, Mercedes and Alpine. That's useless. The tracks are very different. Sometimes one grows together, sometimes the other."

Aston Martin now deals with calculations wind tunnel

Should Aston Martin hold on to second place, the team will go into next season with more money but less testing time in the wind tunnel. This is because the rules are such that the higher a team finishes in the standings, the less testing time they get. That way, lower-placed teams should have a better chance of closing the gap to the front.

"It would be 25 percent for second place. Yes, that is substantial," acknowledges Krack. "These are things we are discussing right now. Although we have to be realistic: We also have to look at third and fourth place. Things can change very quickly in the championship. We're not far ahead of Mercedes. As a team, you can quickly jump in the table."
