Max Verstappen was not entirely fit during the United States Grand Prix, his team announced earlier. The Dutchman would even have fainted. According to Helmut Marko it was not that bad in the end and the leader in the world championship is completely fit for the Grand Prix of Mexico.

Verdicts on Verstappen's health put into perspective

Marko's earlier statements led one to believe that Verstappen's health really wasn't good in Austin, but the Red Bull advisor has now put his statements into perspective somewhat. "He had a normal cold virus, which still occurs even in times of Coronavirus, so he was a bit weak," the Austrian told Sport1.

The Dutchman was actually only at the start of the race not really fit. "He drank a lot in the cockpit, which then made it better. There was never any danger for him." Verstappen won his eighth Grand Prix of the season in Austin in impressive fashion and moved further ahead of rival Lewis Hamilton in the battle for the world title. The Briton is now twelve points behind the Red Bull driver.

Verstappen had amazing overview

That Verstappen's health wasn't too bad in the end was evident from the way he won the race in Texas. "The speed he showed in the race was unique, but not only that: the overview he had at every stage of the Grand Prix was also amazing. For example, during the race he was still able to point out that this would be the right time to tactically engage teammate Sergio Perez. This is usually the job of the engineers in the pits."

Thats the difference. Max didnt spend the next 5 days whining about his illness. Despite not being well, he still had the presence of mind to deliver an astonishing performance as we all agree after what we witnessed in those last 10 laps. hamilton- "leave it to me bro" Boy was he in for a surprise.

Glad Max is okay, illness and racing while ill is challenging. We have seen how these driver's do this for our entertainment.

Am I dreaming or Vegan said something nice about Max ? Shouldn’t you say something like ‘It’s easy to drive ill in the dominant car ‘ ?
