The 2023 season is over on track, but for the team representatives of Red Bull Racing and Mercedes, among others, a trip to the stewards still awaits. The second series of pit stops at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix found that these teams - as well as Williams, Alfa Romeo and Alpine - had not taken the required safety measures.
Meanwhile, the FIA has revealed exactly what was going on: "The offences at the pit stops relate to the fact that pit staff may not be wearing the required eye protection during a stop," said a spokesperson.
If a penalty follows, it does not seem likely to affect the outcome of the Grand Prix won by Verstappen. Rather, it is more likely that there will be a fine for the teams. In any case, it is remarkable that the offence was found at several teams, in the final race of the season, out of all places.
