The crowd did its utmost to shout Sergio Perez to pole position for his home race in Mexico, but he has to settle for the second row of the grid. At Viaplay, the Red Bull Racing driver explained that he was hampered by an electrical problem during qualifying.

Perez balks at P4

Asked if he was satisfied with a fourth starting position, Perez naturally looked unimpressed. He explained that he suffered from an electronic problem, which prevented him from seeing reference times and brake balance. "I had an electrical problem, I was blind during qualifying. I had no reference at all, so it was a bit messy," explained the Red Bull driver.

The problems almost eliminated Perez in Q2, so to still end up on the second row of the grid, he said to Sky Sports, "not the end of the world". Still, he would have preferred to fight for pole, but the Mexican still sees plenty of opportunities for the race. " It will be an interesting battle and we will do our best to catch them, hopefully we can beat them," he says.

Asked why he entered the track first in Q3, Perez replied that there was nothing to be gained by going later. "We wanted to do our own thing, there was nothing to gain by going later. We thought the track improvement was minimal. What I missed was a reference about my lap and also where I was with the brake balance," Perez said.
