In the first and only free practice session for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz set the fastest time. The Spaniard was one-tenth faster than teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished second. George Russell finished third. Max Verstappen did not push for a fast lap at Interlagos.
Due to the sprint weekend, only one free practice session was held at Interlagos. Interestingly, many drivers chose not to push for a fast lap. Verstappen and Sergio Perez, for instance, drove around on hard tyres for a long time, and Lewis Hamilton did not go for it either. The Ferrari drivers did, yielding the fastest time for the Italian team.
