Mercedes looks to be in contention for victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. The German formation has got the hang of it after a difficult start to the season and thus looks set to compete seriously with Red Bull Racing, according to George Russell.

During the start of the season, Mercedes suffered a lot of porpoising, losing a lot of time on the competition. Among other things, it made a fight with Red Bull and Ferrari almost impossible, while the situation was also dangerous for Lewis Hamilton and Russell.

The FIA then decided to intervene and make some clear agreements with the teams to avoid problems with porpoising in the future. It resulted in an advantage for Mercedes, which was able to make some big steps forward as a result.

"I think it almost has disappeared," Russell points in the FIA press conference to porpoising. "I think the couple of small rule changes that were implemented by the FIA definitely helped and the changes into next year by raising the floor edge, we're almost 100% sure that will take porpoising out of the equation totally."

"There was once a time that I forgot what a race car felt like not to have porpoising and now to be honest, I forgot what it does feel like to have porpoising. So I think that also goes to show the progress we as a team have made."
