Mercedes has had a rough start to the season. Whereas Lewis Hamilton has guaranteed good performances in recent years, it is George Russell who is putting in the better results for the time being. According to the newcomer, however, Hamilton is getting there.

The German racing stable had been the best team on the grid since the hybrid era, which began in 2014. However, that changed this season when new regulations came into force. Among other things, these ensured that Mercedes suffered a lot from porpoising, for which it was not yet able to find a solution.

Russell supports teammate Hamilton at Mercedes

Prior to the season it seemed that Russell would have a hard time driving at a top team like Mercedes, but for now the pressure seems to do little to him. The fact that he has 21 points more than his teammate says a lot about the form the talented driver is in. In the media, however, Russell continues to express his confidence in Hamilton.

"Lewis has clearly got the pace," Russell stated in conversation with Sky Sports. "He's incredibly fast and he's showed that so far this year, but it's just been tricky for us as a team to get it done when the time is needed."

No one said he was slow, else he would not be in F1. But there are obviously more faster drivers on the grid. Russell is clearly faster than his team-mate and the points table dont lie. The Imola GP showed what Russell can do in a mid-tier car and mixed conditions. That was a pure drivers performance race and some of his overtaking moves were brilliant

I think Toto going to talk to George this weekend! ......It's getting to much for Hamilton the tester!!!

Toto is coaching George on how to stroke Lewis? In this crazy virtual world, Merc needs a virtual skirt, but Lewis wants real one? While Merc lack the virtual skirt can George show Lewis how to keep his foot on the gas all the way to the braking zone?

All the drivers are fast. Some are just faster than others.

Sounds like Russell is the mentor and Hamilton the student. Maybe with enough guidance from Russell, Sir Lewis could possibly put in some half decent lap times.

Well he has the 3rd best car on the grid, some would be very happy with such tools, just wonder how the Ham justify his salary when his understudy is kicking dust in his eyes .......... with the same tools.

Its called luck that George has had in order to gain places whereas lewis has not had any luck. Hoe many olaces did george make uo in the sprimt race without luck? Exactly. He needs the luck to get into the top 10

Sorry, but Imola was fair. Or was George lucky because he had a very good start and Lewis a bad start. Because they both benefited from the crash and spin. Lewis blew it in the qualifiying and with the start. That has nothing to do with luck. George beat him fair in Imola. Like I mentioned before the season started. Unless Mercedes is competing for the WDC title, I think that George will end up before Lewis in the ranking. Not that I think Lewis is a bad driver, but I have my doubts about his motivation. And that is also part of the driver package.

How did george do in the sprint? He didnt make up places. But he made up 5 places for free in the crash and lewis went to p12. There is quite a large difference between p12 where lewis was and p6 where russel ended. Russel scored 5 place which is very much only luck. Not a fair contest at all The sprint was fair and how many places did George make up?

JEM 05 May 2022 at 18:11+ 12716

See my previous comment. He gained 5 positions due to luck, whereas George only gained 3.

Tristen 05 May 2022 at 13:35+ 2508

He scored much less than 5. Can you count?

MorasB 05 May 2022 at 07:39+ 3255

Lewis also score that 5 places. Does the same count for him.

I start to think that you have a blind spot when it comes to Lewis. Because Lewis had a very poor qualifying, sprint race and actual race, you say it is luck from George, but that is just incorrect. Correct, George didn't overtake any cars in the sprint, but where George didn't lose any places, Lewis lost 2 placed. If you then go to the race, it is even so that Lewis had more luck then George. Because only benefited from the crash between Carlos and Daniel. He already was in front of Alonso and Mick when they collided. So he only really gained three positions due to crash if you include the fact that he passed Bottas, who was briefly hindered by Daniel. Lewis on the other hand already gained 1 position due to Zhou who started from the pits instead of position 14. Then he gained the positions from Daniel and Carlos due to the crash and Mick after he spun into Alonso. And in the end also got passed Alonso due to the damage he occurred from the collision with Mick. So Lewis gained five position due to luck (or bad luck from other drivers) and George only 3. So stop saying George was lucky in Imola, when it actual comes down to a very poor performance of Lewis in that weekend.
