Carlos Sainz will start from third on the grid tomorrow, after Charles Leclerc crashed in the final minutes of qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix, causing a red flag. The Spaniard is aware that more could've been achieved today but is already thinking ahead to the race tomorrow.
"It was a very tricky qualifying for all, it's very difficult to find the right feeling with the tyres on this tarmac," he explained after the session to Danica Patrick, "it was a fight all the way through qualifying, and was very easy to make mistakes."
When asked about the track conditions and where the team expected to finish, Sainz was straightforward in his response, saying: "It's getting windier and windier, which for our car, in particular, makes it tricky to drive. P3 was what we targeted but I think today we could've been even better. It's a big unknown going into tomorrow with the heat.
"Plenty left out there, I think we all had a lot of lap time to come, I was doing a very good first sector. We're P3 which is more or less where we planned to be."
To finish, the Spaniard explained his feelings about what needs to be achieved tomorrow but also is aware of his rivals and what they can achieve: "We should try to do a better job than the last one, which would bring us a podium and give us a good result. I think the Red Bulls are very quick, but then with everyone else, it will be a good fight, an exciting race."
