Mick Schumacher experienced a disappointing first year at Haas last season. The American racing stable didn't get away from the back spots and didn't gain a point over the whole season. This race year, however, everything is different, as Schumacher also knows. He lets us know that to F1-insider.com.
Guenther Steiner's team made it clear early in 2021 that it was setting its sights on the following year. At that time, it was already known that new regulations would apply, so Haas thought it would be a good idea to put all its focus and capital into the new car.
Haas had to take a long, hard look at the new car for a season, but during the opening race of 2022 in Bahrain it was clear that the car was indeed stronger. While Kevin Magnussen finished fifth, Schumacher just failed to drive into the points with his eleventh position.
Looking at the first race, Schumacher hopes that Haas will be able to compete against multiple opponents in 2022. "Our opponents now are Alpine, Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri. And hopefully Mercedes and Red Bull. Let's see where that takes us," stated Schumacher, who is hoping for great performances this season. "We're not ready yet. And if we can, we also want to compete with the top teams."
