The death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is also causing a stir in the Formula 1 world. F1 is reportedly planning several moments of silence during the Italian GP weekend.

Minute of silence for Queen Elizabeth II

The-Race.com reports that a minute's silence will be held at the Italian Monza circuit on Friday before the first free practice with all teams. There will probably be another minute's silence on the grid before the race on Sunday. Formula 1 almost immediately released a statement expressing condolences to the royal family and the British people. Drivers and teams also showed their support and sympathy on social media.

The death of the British queen is very much alive in the F1 world and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem explains why in his statement and expression of sympathy: "Undoubtedly one of the most respected heads of state there has ever been. Motorsport and Formula 1 in particular has its heart in the UK and the royal family has provided much support for the sport for many years."
