Max Verstappen looked somewhat dejected after a disappointing Friday in Imola. The Red Bull Racing driver does not simply expect to fight for pole position, given the disappointing results so far.

Verstappen fears unable to fight for pole

On Saturday, Verstappen will drive with a new floor, but the third free practice session has yet to show whether that has made a positive change. Still, the Dutchman has confidence in the new part changed on his car, but he has less confidence in the tyres. "Understeer, oversteer, those tyres are very sensitive to temperature and that only gets worse during the lap," he explained to Viaplay.

"That was a bit my problem, and then of course you have that problem in the longruns as well. Of course it didn't look very good there either," he added. Asked if Red Bull was able to make a move from Friday to Saturday, Verstappen answered, "I hope so, but so far it's been a very difficult weekend. I'm not going to say now that I'm going to fight for pole position after what we had yesterday. Quite a lot has to happen to turn that around positively to P1 very quickly."
